I have trained in many different modalities that I think are particularly useful when one is on a search for
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness and wholeness.
Here are some of the major disciplines or modalities used
in the healing work of The Awareness Option
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT):
Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy is designed to help people who suffer repeated bouts of depression, anxiety and chronic unhappiness. It combines the ideas of cognitive therapy with meditative practices and attitudes based on the cultivation of mindfulness. The heart of this work lies in becoming acquainted with the
models of the mind that often characterize mood disorders while simultaneously learning to develop a new relationship to them.
Gestalt Therapy:
Gestalt Therapy is an existential/experiential form of psychotherapy that emphasizes personal responsibility. This therapy focuses on the individual experience in the present moment, the therapist-client relationship, the environmental social context of a person’s life and the self-regulating adjustments people make as a result of their overall situation.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy:
Cognitive Behavior Therapy is a general term for a form of psychotherapy that emphasizes the important role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. CBT is based on the notion that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors, not external events, people or situations. The benefit of this fact is that we can change the way we think to feel better even if the situation doesn’t change. This therapy is based on an educational model is time limited, structured, directive and uses “homework” as one of it’s tools.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR):
EMDR is a form of psychotherapy that was developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro. It was developed to resolve the development of trauma related disorders as resulting from exposure to a traumatic or distressing event, such as rape or military combat. Clinical trails have been conducted to assess EMDR’s efficacy in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It has been found to be very successful in treating post-traumatic stress disorder.
Transpersonal Psychology:
Transpersonal psychology developed from the earlier school of humanistic psychology. Transpersonal psychology attempts to describe and integrate spiritual experience with modern psychological theory and formulates new theory to encompass such experiences. The experiences examined vary greatly but include mysticism and altered state of consciousness, trance states and spiritual practices. Transpersonal psychology integrates the mind, body and spirit of each person’s experience into a whole picture of that human being and their experience.
Reiki:
Reiki was developed in 1922 by a Japanese Buddhist named Mikao Usui. It uses a technique commonly called palm healing as a form of complementary and alternative medicine. There are two main branches of Reiki, commonly referred to as Traditional Japanese Reiki and Western Reiki. Within both Traditional and Westernized forms of Reiki, there are three degrees of learning. The First Degree a Reiki practitioner is able to heal himself and others. The Second Degree a Reiki practitioner is able to heal other distantly with the use of specialized symbols. The Third degree or Master Level training a practitioner is able to teach and attune other to Reiki.
Integrated Awareness®:
Integrated Awareness is a body work/energy work modality. Integrated Awareness brings together the skills and techniques of Moshe Feldenkrais, June d’Estelle and Lansing B Gresham. This modality is experiential and re-activates the skills of expansion beyond four dimensions; heightened perception, shifting focus, conscious intent and awareness of choice. It is done through movement, touch, awareness and higher dimensional levels of consciousness in individual table sessions and class format. This work assists a person to directly access, feel and understand the wisdom of their body, mind and soul.
Polarity Therapy:
Polarity Therapy is an alternative medicine health system developed in the 1940’s by Doctor Randolph Stone. Proponents claim healing can be achieved through manipulation of the polarized energy currents that flow in, on and around the body. Polarity Therapy is a synthesis of ancient Eastern and alternative medicine health care ideas, centered on the concept of human energy fields. Using touch, verbal interaction, exercise, nutrition and other methods, practitioners of Polarity Therapy seek to balance and restore the natural flow of energy that flows from the universe and into the body. In addition to polarity bodywork, specific polarity yoga exercises, counseling/positive thinking and nutritional recommendations are claimed to enhance vitality.
Esogetic Colorpuncture™:
Esogetic Colorpuncture is a revolutionary evolution in holistic healing and one of Europe’s most popular new alternative healing disciplines. The originator of Colorpuncture is a German scientist and naturopath named Peter Mandel. He has conducted over 25 years of intensive empirical research to develop this unique system of healing. Esogetic Colorpuncture uses light to heal. In the treatments frequencies of colored light are focused on the skin using a hand-held acu-light tool with specially designed, hand-made interchangeable crystal rods which emit different colors of light through a focused tip. Colorpuncture is a powerful holistic healing system which offers a unique new way to get to the very roots of many health problems. It is designed to address the non-physical origins of illness as well as its physical symptoms. Colorpuncture therapy uses precisely targeted light treatments to gently unlock and release emotional trauma and blocked soul information which often underlie our illnesses.
